Minivan boom The extraordinary versatility of the minivan concept is the key to the success of this relatively young vehicle segment. Once conceived as a second car for families or elderly drivers, �MVees� are seducing more and more customers even with preferences for sporty or rugged driving characteristics.



The start of this segment was in the 80ies with some Japanese people carrier. Since 1991, European OEMs no longer let this important vehicle niche to Japanese or Korean car-makers.

In this report, the segment evolution in the periods 1990 to 1994, 1995 to 1999 and 2000 to 2004 is described. All models are identified in three tables, with their main characteristics. A particular focus is given on the interior trends, with an outlook for the time period 2005 to 2007.

MV replacements to come
In the next 3 years, about 20 MVs models are to be replaced. The crucial question is how to upgrade the interior features and at the same time keep manufacturing cost low.
